Records Fund

Fund the civic records desk.

The public rule book only works if ordinary people can afford to use it. Contributions buy records, keep the search tools online, and help turn source documents into journalism neighbors can actually read.

Four funding lanes

Pick the lane that matches what you want to strengthen. The ledger records the lane and the public tracker shows what the work produced.

Your contribution impact

At $50: Covers a standard public-records deposit or one focused email-routing audit request.

Frequency and amount

Monthly gifts keep records requests, hosting, and indexing work moving between big public moments.

Secure Stripe Checkout

Card and wallet details are entered on Stripe-hosted Checkout. Albany Records Project records the contribution only after Stripe sends a signed payment confirmation.

By contributing, you agree to the Terms & Conditions. Donations are not payment for legal services, do not give donors control over strategy, and are not represented as tax-deductible unless separately verified in writing.

Transparency promise

We post a monthly ledger of records-related spending categories and update the public tracker as requests move from sent to acknowledged, estimated, produced, denied, appealed, or closed.

Where contributions land first

Active priorities as of May 2026, in roughly the order they will be funded.

  • Public-records fee deposits: City, County, APD, DA
  • City public-records handling, search, routing, and fee-audit records
  • APD March 19 supplemental search audit
  • DA 26PRR008-E challenge support
  • Linn County Assessor & Tax Collector: Blue Ox audit-the-audit request
  • Albany TLT and transient lodging tax audit records
  • Public comment access records: City Council meeting archive
  • Transcription, indexing, redaction, and source review before publication

What the fund pays for

  • Public-records fees and deposits at the City of Albany, Linn County, APD, the DA, and state agencies
  • Transcription and searchable text for meetings, recordings, and productions
  • Hosting, indexing, redaction, secure storage, and AI drafting tools
  • Explainer graphics, timelines, and records summaries
  • Limited review costs required before public release

What it does not pay for

  • Donor control over legal strategy, reporting, or publication decisions
  • Legal services or representation of donors
  • Publication of private resident or contributor information
  • Anything framed as attack money or a settlement war chest
  • Personal expenses unrelated to records or journalism work
